FAQ

What is the Barnwell Foundation?

The Barnwell Foundation is a non-profit tax-exempt organization that was established several years ago by a group of parent volunteers dedicated to raising money to improve Barnwell Elementary School from the inside out.

Who is on the Foundation?

The Barnwell Foundation is comprised of and governed by a Board of Directors all of whom have children currently attending Barnwell.  Board members are nominated and voted on by the Board every other spring and work closely with the school’s Principal to assess the current needs of our students and school.

Why have a Foundation?

Like many schools in Fulton County and across the country, our organization was formed in order to help encourage parents and community contributions, and to help secure private and government grants to the school’s 501(c) (3) organization.  The Foundation has very specific set of goals – to secure financial support and use that funding to support a variety of programs and resources that will help our children remain competitive within the northeast elementary schools.  Without a Foundation, there are very few avenues available to obtain necessary funding for additional resources for the school.

How is the Foundation different from PTA?

The Foundation was established to work hand-in-hand with the PTA in order to address the needs of our school, staff and students. The primary purpose of the PTA is to provide enrichment programs, though the national PTA guidelines limit how the PTA can spend their funds. A strong Foundation will give us the ability to secure funding so we can develop, conduct and finance existing and future projects to benefit the students at Barnwell.

How does the Foundation receive funding?

The Foundation raises funds through the Benefactor Giving Campaign, Business Sponsorships and Fundraising Events:

Ongoing Giving Campaign:  Throughout the year, Barnwell friends and families can directly donate to the Foundation.

Annual Spring Fling: The Foundation will host a Spring Fling with a silent auction off campus.

Fun Run: The Foundation will host a Fun Run.

Raffles and Fundraisers: The Foundation will host raffles and fundraisers to raise funds and awareness of the Barnwell Foundation.

Business Sponsors: The Foundation will partner with businesses and the local community to help make a difference for our children. If you have a business or would like to see a business become a sponsor, please contact us!

How can I get involved? What else is needed?

All parents are urged to first join our award-winning PTA.  Then, any Barnwell parents interested in participating further in the success of our school may help by giving of their time, skills, services and/or money. If you are interested in volunteering and/or need more information, please go to our website at www.barnwellfoundation.org

Is my donation tax deductible?

Yes!  The Barnwell Foundation is a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization and you will receive a receipt for your 100% tax-deductible donation. The Barnwell Education Foundation’s Tax ID number is 20-2694988.

The Barnwell Foundation's annual Spring Fling with Online Silent Auction was a huge success!  We raised $16,000 for Barnwell Elementary School's Sensory Garden.  Thank you to everyone who donated, sponsored, attended or volunteered for this event.
